5 minute fudge with sweetened condensed milk piled on a white plate

Although I love our family old fashioned chocolate fudge recipe, this year I wanted to experiment with a recipe that didn't require standing over the stove and stirring boiling liquid. I landed on this recipe and was astounded at how easy it was!

Studded with pillowy marshmallows and crunchy nuts, it is a decadent chocolate fudge recipe that can be made ahead for the holidays.

Ingredients for this quick fudge recipe

(For complete recipe and instructions, please refer to the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post.)

  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups mini marshmallows
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts – or a nut flavour of your choice

This quick fudge recipe only requires 5 ingredients!

Instructions for 5 Minute Fudge

  • Step 1: Line a 9 x 13 inch pan with parchment paper or greased aluminum foil.
  • Step 2: Place the chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk in a microwave safe bowl and heat for 1 minute. Stir until mixture is smooth and all the chocolate chip bits are melted. If there are still some chips remaining after stirring, microwave in 30 sencond intervals – stirring in between until they are smooth. Stir in the vanilla, marshmallows, and walnuts.
  • Step 3: Using a large spoon, spoon out the fudge in large dollops onto the parchment or foil-lined pan. Press down to form an even layer.
  • Step 4: Refrigerate until fully set. When ready to serve, pull the fudge out of the pan by lifting up on the sides of the parchment paper or foil. Slice into squares.

Tips & Tricks

  • To cut into nice, smooth squares, run a large sharp knife under hot water until the blade is hot. Dry it off with a towel and slice the fudge while the knife is still hot. It will cut very smoothly.
  • Use clothespins to hold the sides of the parchment paper in place in the pan.

Substitutions

Have fun customizing this quick fudge to make it the flavor and look you'd like.

Replace the nuts with white chocolate chips or peanut butter chips.

Substitute maple or cinnamon extract for the vanilla extract to give it a warm and spicy flavor.

Stir in colored sprinkles and press some on the top for a different look.

Replace the marshmallows with dried fruit for a fruit and nut microwave fudge.

Replace the semi-sweet chocolate chips with white chocolate chips and stir in cranberries instead of marshmallows for a pretty red and white Christmas fudge.

Equipment

Parchment paper has become one of my most often used kitchen tools for baking. It makes clean up a breeze, and eliminates fighting to get things out of the pan! I also love having a 9 x 13 professional baking pan with sharp corner. Every piece looks pretty when it is slice.

Storage

This easy microwave fudge can be stored safely on the countertop in a sealed container for up to a week, or covered in the fridge for 2 weeks.

To freeze, wrap the fudge tightly in plastic wrap and place in a ziploc bag or airtight container before placing in the freezer. It will keep for about 3 months in the freezer. To thaw, uncover the fudge, unwrap it, and thaw at room temperature on a platter.
